About Coastal Tree Consultancy

Bruce is an Arboriculturist with 28 years’ experience in tree surgery, arboricultural consultancy, Local Authority development management and linear infrastructure landscape management. He spent twelve years running a small tree surgery/consultancy business in Bristol before working for Bristol City Council as a surveyor and planning tree officer. Eight years working for a large multi-disciplinary consultant, managing large scale health and safety surveys and carrying development site surveys and writing BS5837 reports, on both small and large scale commercial developments and infrastructure projects. Bruce’s local authority planning and development management knowledge has recently been updated whilst recently working as the Tree and Landscape Officer within the planning department of Torridge District Council, North Devon.

This varied work history gives Bruce experience of all aspects of modern tree management including; pest and disease, planning, trees in relation to construction (BS5837), mortgage reports, trees in relation to building subsidence.

Bruce also has experience of bats in relation to using trees as roost sites, landscape management, and environmental auditing.

Using Bruce’s past experience of using of handheld computers with GIS software for tree surveying, including data collection for BS5837:2012 constraints reports, Coastal Tree Consultancy aims to use the latest smartphone technology and GIS software to provide a cost effective, modern arboricultural service to both commercial and private clients across North Devon and the South West including; Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Bristol.
